Part 1: Question #2 and #4

The Berlin Conference was a meeting between many European countries. These countries were meeting up to imperialize Africa and split it up between one another. The colonizing of Africa brought many effects to the Africans. The Europeans wanted to take control of lands with the most natural resources. Instead of going in and taking control they let the Africans fight one another. These fights were caused because of ethnic rivalries. As they became weak the Europeans came in to take control of the Africans and take all their natural resources.

Imperialism is something that could be prevented. I think it could be prevented if the country that wants something is willing to trade or make an agreement with the other country. If the Europeans would have traded with Africa it would have made things much better for the African. I think we should strive for equality so that we won’t overpower each other.

“We must find new lands from which we can easily obtain raw materials and at the same time exploit the cheap slave labor that is available from the natives of the colonies. The colonies would also provide a dumping ground for the surplus goods produced in our factories. - Cecil Rhodes
